Hilton Honors Devaluation: Standard Room Rewards Now 250,000 Points

Hilton just did it again. This is already the third Hilton Honors points devaluation within just 10 months. In December 2024, award prices increased across many luxury properties. Then, in May 2025, the Standard Room Reward cap was raised to 200,000 points. And now, in September 2025, the cap has jumped again to 250,000 points. There are two high-end properties with standard room rewards now reaching the new maximum: the Waldorf Astoria Maldives and the Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal.

Personally, we feel lucky. Over the past five years, we’ve visited all the Hilton luxury properties we’ve ever dreamed of. We spent 8 nights at the Waldorf Astoria Maldives this April for 150,000 points per night. Looking back, it feels like we caught the last train before the hike. We visited the Waldorf Astoria Pedregal in 2020 (for 120,000 points per night), and both there and in the Maldives our experiences were nothing short of first-class. At that time, redeeming points felt like an incredible privilege and truly rewarding. With the new standard room reward requirement, however, that sense of value is slipping away. What was once a dream within reach for many Hilton Honors members may now feel unattainable or simply not worth it anymore.

Hilton Honors Points Devaluation, The Third in 10 Months

For years, Hilton Honors points offered a way to access high-end Hilton properties at great value. With these repeated devaluations, the situation has changed significantly. It’s no longer easy to find properties where using points makes sense, especially for shorter stays of 1–4 nights.

The “Fifth Night Free” benefit still helps somewhat. For example at Waldorf Astoria Maldives, a five-night stay now costs 1,000,000 points. That can still be worthwhile, but the main issue remains: the limited availability of standard room rewards. At Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal, there’s plenty of award availability, but the value of redeeming points is roughly the same as paying cash. In such cases, it makes no sense to buy Hilton points, since a cash booking offers similar or better value.

At Conrad Maldives Rangali Island, the situation is even clearer. The property went from 120,000 points to 140,000, and now to 180,000 points per night. Meanwhile, through Hilton for Luxury at GajaDreams Hotels, you can book a package with Stay 4 Pay 3, half board, and 25% discount on seaplane transfers, making cash bookings far more attractive than points.

How Other Hilton Luxury Properties Have Changed

The devaluations aren’t limited to the three resorts mentioned above. The same trend can be seen across Hilton’s top-tier properties:

Waldorf Astoria Seychelles Platte Island – from 120,000 to 200,000 points

Conrad Bora Bora Nui – from 120,000 to 200,000 points

Conrad Koh Samui – from 95,000 to 110,000 points

Conrad Punta de Mita – from 95,000 to 110,000 points

Conrad Tulum Riviera Maya – from 100,000 to 105,000 points

Conrad Osaka – from 95,000 to 110,000 points

Conrad Tokyo – from 95,000 to 130,000 points

What This Means for Hilton Honors Members

For Hilton Honors members, these rapid devaluations bring clear consequences. The value per point has declined, and the dream of booking aspirational resorts purely with points is fading. At the same time, Free Night Certificates have become more important than ever, since they can cover a room that might otherwise cost more than 200,000 points per night.

In many cases, Hilton for Luxury promotions such as Stay 3 Pay 2 or Stay 4 Pay 3 provide better value than redeeming large amounts of points. Buying points has also lost much of its appeal, as redemptions often match, or even exceed, cash rates. At some hotels, especially resorts, cash packages that include the room rate, dining, and sometimes even transfers can offer better value than booking with points.

Conclusion

Hilton Honors points are no longer the easy gateway to luxury stays they once were. With three devaluations in less than a year, we face higher award prices with significantly reduced value. For loyal Hilton guests, it’s a clear signal to rethink redemption strategies and perhaps compare loyalty options across hotel chains.
