Conrad Athens: A New Chapter for an Iconic Landmark

Big news for Athens—Conrad Athens, also known as “The Ilisian,” is set to open in late 2025, and it’s shaping up to be something truly special. Taking over the historic former Hilton Athens, this project promises to blend luxury, history, and a touch of innovation to create a hub that’s more than just a hotel.

The Ilisian will have 280 guest rooms and suites, each with incredible views of Athens’ famous landmarks. And if you’re looking for something over-the-top, there’s a 400-square-meter mega rooftop suite that’s sure to wow anyone. Plus, the upper floors will feature 18 exclusive Conrad Residences and 37 Waldorf Astoria Residences—perfect for those who want a private slice of luxury.

Honoring Athens’ Heritage

The name “The Ilisian” comes from the historic Ilisos River and the surrounding Ilisia neighborhood. This connection to the city’s roots runs through the entire project, including the preserved façades of the building, originally designed by artist Yannis Moralis.

Back in 1963, when the building opened as Hilton Athens, it was a game-changer for Greek tourism. Even Jacqueline Kennedy showed up for the grand opening. Now, The Ilisian is set to carry that legacy forward in a way that feels fresh and modern.

More Than Just a Hotel

  • A semi-Olympic outdoor pool for those sunny Athens days.

  • A 700-meter outdoor running track on the mezzanine rooftop.

  • A private luxury members’ club.

  • Fine dining and entertainment venues bringing together top local and international talent.

  • High-end retail shops and curated experiences.

  • Wellness and fitness areas designed with some of the best global brands.

A Sustainable Future

The Ilisian isn’t just about luxury—it’s about doing it responsibly. The project is aiming for LEED Gold certification with eco-friendly practices and cutting-edge tech to keep its footprint light. It’s a forward-thinking approach to hospitality that’s good for everyone.
