Our Experience at Conrad Hong Kong: New Year’s Eve Stay

Originally, we planned to spend two nights at Conrad Hong Kong. However, one day before arrival, we noticed the hotel was nearly full. Through the Hilton app, we saw that our upgrade would only be to a King Executive Room Peak View. To save 70,000 points, we decided to stay an extra night at Hilton Shenzhen Futian and reduced our stay at Conrad Hong Kong to just one night for New Year’s Eve.

We had previously stayed at Conrad Hong Kong last summer, where we were upgraded to a King Executive Harbour Suite with a stunning view of Victoria Harbour. For more details, watch our video.

Prime Location

Conrad Hong Kong, with its 61 floors, boasts an excellent location above the Pacific Place shopping mall in the heart of the city’s business district. It is directly connected to the Admiralty MRT station, making it a perfect base to explore Hong Kong’s vibrant streets, enjoy a waterfront stroll at Victoria Harbour, or visit several city parks. The Peak Tram station is also within walking distance, which is a must-visit when in Hong Kong.

After checking out from Hilton Shenzhen Futian, we traveled to Hong Kong via a smooth border crossing. For transportation, we used the MRT. From Lo Wu Station (Luohu border crossing on the Chinese side), the red line took us directly to Admiralty station. While we often use Didi (the Chinese alternative to Uber) in Mainland China, we prefer the MRT in Hong Kong due to its efficiency and cost-effectiveness.

Check-In Experience

At Conrad Hong Kong, we checked in at the executive lounge. As expected, our upgrade was to a King Executive Room Peak View. The receptionist informed us about a private New Year’s Eve party in the executive lounge but mentioned that a section would remain open for executive guests to view the fireworks over Victoria Harbour. This thoughtful gesture for elite members was greatly appreciated.

Room and Facilities

The design of the rooms at Conrad Hong Kong is classic, combining yellow and light natural brown tones with dark brown furniture. The King Executive Room Peak View, at 42 sq. m. (452 sq. ft.), was spacious. The bathroom featured marble finishes, a bathtub, and a separate walk-in shower. The hotel, built in 1990, last underwent renovations in 2013. Upon entering the room, we noticed a slight damp smell, similar to what we experienced in the suite last year. Both times, a dehumidifier was running in the room.

Executive Lounge Highlights

The executive lounge on the 59th floor is a highlight of the hotel. It is spacious and open all day, offering breakfast, afternoon tea, and happy hour. The service was excellent—attentive and professional. Despite the busy atmosphere during happy hour, the staff managed it well, maintaining a pleasant and calm ambiance. The buffet selection, while not extensive, included salads, soup, cold and warm canapés, cold cuts, fruits, and desserts—all of which tasted great.

We returned to the lounge around 11 p.m. to find a spot to watch the fireworks. Although all tables were occupied, the staff found us a place with two chairs. Soft drinks, wine, and beer were also served. Watching the beautiful fireworks over Victoria Harbour from the lounge was a memorable experience.

Breakfast Challenges

The next morning, we went for breakfast around 9:45 a.m. at the Garden Café, only to find a queue of about ten guests as the restaurant was full. We then headed to the executive lounge, where the situation was similar. After waiting for about 10 minutes, we were seated and enjoyed a lovely breakfast. However, by the time we left the lounge around 10:30 a.m., the queue had grown significantly, and some guests appeared quite unhappy. Such overcrowding can tarnish the experience at a five-star hotel.

Conclusion

Our experience at Conrad Hong Kong left us with mixed feelings. We loved the hotel’s location and the excellent service at the executive lounge. The views of Victoria Harbour are breathtaking. During our previous stay, we also enjoyed a delightful lunch at the Garden Café. However, the hotel faces capacity issues during breakfast when occupancy is near full, and the rooms are due for renovation.

The standard room rate starts at HKD 2,200 (approximately USD 280). Standard room reward in 2025 requires either 70,000 or 75,000 Hilton Honors points. Therefore, using points for stays during peak seasons can be highly worthwhile, as we did on New Year’s Eve when the price soared to 5,000 HKD (around 640 USD).

Despite its flaws, Conrad Hong Kong remains a solid choice for experiencing the vibrant city of Hong Kong.
